A Real Life Example of Value Aligned Spending & Living

Episode #41 This episode is a huge reminder of why I preach value-aligned spending. This week I'm sharing a letter from a dear friend of mine, Ross. Ross was the guy in school who looked as if he had everything figured out-- he was valedictorian, was accepted into a prestigious college, and was going into the STEM career field.

This week I'm sharing a letter from a dear friend of mine, Ross. Ross was the guy in school who looked as if he had everything figured out-- he was valedictorian, was accepted into a prestigious college, and was going into the STEM career field. Fast forward &, he’s living in a remote village in Guinea, West Africa as a volunteer for the Peace Corps. (He is currently home from Africa because of COVID19.)

Listen in to hear how he fully embodies value aligned spending and living.

I'm also sharing a bit of perspective on the Coronavirus. I know that times right now feel very uncertain and scary, but it's still so important to remember the opportunities that we have, opportunities that many people across the world could never dream of having.

Topics discussed in episode 41:

  • A bit about one of my oldest friends, Ross, and reading from a letter he sent me over a year ago.

  • Choosing a job based on passion & adventure rather than money.

  • How Ross embodies value-aligned living,

  • A different perspective on the Coronavirus.

  • Why it's okay to take a risk and try new things.

My favorite takeways:

  • "Having a service mindset came into play, but also the selfish reasons of wanting an adventure and to travel." Ross on choosing a job based on his values rather than for money

  • "We have opportunities available to us that others do not." On remembering perspective during the pandemic

  • "Life is not linear." On remembering it doesn't hurt to try things

  • "It's amazing how much can change in your life in such a short amount of time." On the consequences of innovation and tenacity in your life.

  • "I don't ever want to forget about where I was at." On remembering life before getting out of debt
